[SIHANOUKVILLE, CAMBODIA – May 7, 2023] Senior Minister and First Vice President of the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA) Ly Thuch, representing Prime Minister Hun Sen, today inaugurated Skyfest 2023 at Bay of Lights in Sihanoukville.
Eminent kite flyers from across the world, as well as renowned singers and artists, have descended in Sihanoukville for the international kite flying festival in the country to take part in Skyfest.
Apart from Cambodia, kite flyers representing China, France, Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam participated in the event.
Over 10,000 kite-flying fans from across the world are expected to attend the event, which is first of its kind in the Kingdom.
Speaking at the inaugural event, Ly Thuch praised the Prince Holding Group for organising the event, which reflected the centuries-old Khmer culture and traditions.
“Nation’s glory is flying high and the kite masters from the region and from here are imbibing the spirit of togetherness.”
Edward Lee, Chief Executive Officer of Prince Real Estate Group, said the Bay of Lights project aims to bring sustainable benefits to the people of Cambodia.
He said the event is the first of many upcoming international events that will be held in Cambodia. “We hope to make this an annual festival in the years to come.”
The festival is expected to feature the first-ever Khmer art sand sculpture, water activities by the Cambodian jetski team, and live music from renowned artists such as Tep Boprek, Suly Pheng, Morm Picherith, Intan Andriana and Euan Gray, as well as powerhouse deejays, DJ Vutha, DJ Maily and DJ Chill Bill.
There will also be performances from Cambodia’s world-famous art school and circus, Phare Ponleu Selpak, with their breathtaking acrobats interpreting the ‘Khmer Can Fly’ theme.
